Building Program FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is the plan?

We are planning to renovate the sanctuary, add a new two-story children/youth ministry multipurpose building, and expand the foyer area. The new addition will add three children’s ministry rooms on the ground floor and a large, open second-floor room which can be used as an open meeting area or divided into classrooms for high school and middle school. We will also be remodeling the exterior of the existing building to match the architecture of the new addition. This will give us a nice improvement both inside and out.

2. Many churches employ the services of Christian fund-raising consultants. Are we planning to use such services?

No. Just as David did in 1 Chronicles 29:14-17, we trust that as we present the need and share the vision of where God is leading us, He will lay it on the hearts of the body to participate joyfully in this great opportunity.

3. Are we planning to use pledge cards for people to indicate their financial commitments?

No. Pledge cards may be a helpful tool for people to remember the commitment they made, but we are trying our best to avoid tactics or approaches that are not compatible with the philosophy of ministry at Calvary.

4. What is the financial goal of the “Till the Whole World Hears” project?

We are praying for $190,000 in donations over and above the regular offerings that sustain our continuing ministry needs, staffing, and on-going operational costs.

5. What happens if we don’t meet our goal?

We are limited in the loan amount we can service, so we can only move forward as God provides through the generosity of His people. Any additional income above the goal will go to offset the current building loan.

6. Why does it cost so much?

In short, it is a big project. We have trimmed as much as we can without compromising ministry needs. The ministry team has diligently cost-shopped and compared prices and labor costs to provide the best product at the lowest possible cost.

7. How can I donate?

There are several ways to give. You may feel led to donate one large lump sum, or break it into monthly or weekly giving. Whatever works best for your financial situation is fine. Simply put your gift in an offering envelope, mark it “building fund,” and place it in one of the offering boxes.

8. When do we plan to start and what is the projected completion date of our renovation and new addition?

We hope to start the sanctuary renovations in mid-May 2011 and to break ground on the addition in the fall of 2011. The new addition will take about three months; when it is completed, we will begin renovating the foyer. We anticipate this renovation to take two weeks. The target completion date is early December 2011. This time frame is dependent upon many things, so please pray for a speedy project!

9. Will there be regular updates of the progress to keep the congregation informed?

Yes. We plan to give monthly updates, or as often as necessary.

 10. With the continuing weakness in the economy, is this the best time to be building?

Like every church and every individual, we too felt the initial jolt of the recession; but over the last twelve months we have grown both numerically and financially. This growth is one of the key factors that helped us determine to move forward on this project. As God continues bringing people to our fellowship, we will rely on His provision for a facility that will adequately minister to all.

11. Why not just go to three Sunday Services instead of building?

We will continue adding services and ministering to people as needed to utilize our current building. Though our sanctuary is not currently at capacity, our children’s ministry and foyer are seriously overcrowded. The two-story addition and the foyer renovations will enable us to stay at two services, reduce children’s ministry congestion, and provide a bigger fellowship area. Of course, as the Lord blesses and grows our fellowship, it is our hope that additional services will be needed even after this project!

12 Why not build a new facility elsewhere?

We have carefully investigated the purchase of land, but have determined that it would be far too costly to build a new facility right now. Our engineer has estimated that the parking lot alone would cost $390,000 to develop. This would provide nothing more than a new parking lot—without any sanctuary or classrooms! We are aware that the Lord may lead us to buy and build in the future; but we believe that this is not the time for a project that could easily cost 3.5 million dollars to complete. We are confident that the current project is the most cost-effective solution to our pressing needs.
