How to Study The Bible

  1. Get ready.
    • Come with a journal and an open heart.
    • Pray, ask the Lord to reveal Himself to you in the pages of the Bible.

  2. What does this verse or thought mean?
    • Restate it in your own words.
    • Define the words you don't know. Identify the names of people you don't know.

  3. What does this passage say about God the Father, God the Son or God the Holy Spirit?
    • His actions, or how He interacts with men and nations?
    • Any characteristics that are spoken of?

  4. What does this passage say about me?
    • Any sin I should avoid, promise to hold on to, a command to follow?

  5. What does this passage say about others?
    • Mistakes they made, victories they had, attitudes they had.
    • Examples to follow.

  6. Am I living in agreement with the truths discovered about God, others and myself?
    • Why not? (Be specific)
    • What changes do I need to make in my actions or thinking?

  7. Close with prayer.

  8. Take your journal with you and review it through the day when you are on break, at lunch, etc...
